About Komenda College of Education
Komenda College of Education was established out of the buildings (barracks) left by the Fleet Air Arm of the British Navy after the Second World War. Though the efforts of Mr. A. B. Sam, the then regent of Komenda, the legacy was leased to the Methodist Church Ghana, in 1947 to be used as a training college. The government of Ghana made some renovation works on the buildings to make it suitable for educational use.
On 11th March, 1948, the first batch of students numbering forty men were enrolled to starts an initial 2-Year Teacher’s Cert. ‘B’ programme. In 1952, the college became a co-educational institution with its first batch of thirty women.
The first Principal of the college was Mr. Lawrence Alfred Creedy, a British citizen. The motto of the college is “Bepowso Kurow Hyeren”, meaning a city set on a hill, shines forth. MHB 577 is the college hymn.

Komenda College of Education saw a major infrastructural development in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Currently, some development projects funded by the GetFUND are ongoing as a result of the tertiary status of the college. Plans are far advanced to move the administration and classrooms from the top of the hill to the new settlement down the hill.
Komenda College of Education has chalked a lot of successes on the academic as well as the social field as enshrined in the three main strands of the founding fathers: Academic Excellence, Service to God and Service to Mankind. Academically, the college has played her part which has enabled her to be recognized among the best of the colleges of education. This is testified in the results of the examinations conducted by the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast. Her performance has always been one of the best.
In 1990, the college was given an award by the professional Board of the University of Cape Coast for consistent performance in examinations for five years beginning from 1985 – 1990. The college placed an overall 3rd position out of the 38 public training colleges in Ghana in the first semester examination of the 2007/2008 academic year.

Rev. Isaac K. Quansah, the outgoing Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese, Methodist Church, who is also the Board Chairman.
Another remarkable achievement is that some past students of Komenda College (KOSA) are lecturers in Ghanaian Universities.
